Microneedling Explained

Did you know that once you turn 25 your production of Collagen starts to plummet? Very depressing information, I know! Collagen is one of the most important proteins in mammals. It is responsible for creating structural support in connective tissue, muscle, and skin.

Collagen is what gives our skin its elasticity. When we are young we have ample amounts of collagen and that is what keeps us looking young and allows our skin to repair itself quicker. As we get older and our body creates less Collagen it is not able to rejuvenate as quickly which creates saggy skin and wrinkles.

Microneedling is a fairly new service in the beauty industry, which is helping people to boost their collagen production, supporting the appearance of our skin and can even promote hair growth.

What is Microneedling?

Well first things first: Microneedling is the bee’s knees. Microneedling is a service that can help you achieve your skin goals! It can improve the appearance of:

  • Body scars
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Pore size
  • Stretch marks
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Loose skin

You may be envisioning an invasive procedure with downtime but Microneedling is actually minimally invasive and requires no downtime.

How does it work?

Microneedling works by creating teeny weenie tiny punctures in the skin with itty bitty needles. This sounds very scary but trust me you can barely even feel it! Most places will numb you first so it is as pain free as possible.

These tiny punctures in the skin trick your skin into thinking it is injured which makes your body start sending in the troops (Collagen) to re-build and repair the injuries. It takes about 30 days for Collagen to start working its magic following your first treatment.

How many treatments do I need to start seeing results?

A minimum of 3 treatments is recommended to see results on any area. We recommend the treatments be spaced out 2 weeks – 1 month apart. You need to give your skin time to heal in-between sessions. Microneedling can be used in conjunction with other treatments as well to see optimal results. Once you achieve your desired results you should expect to do quarterly treatments to maintain Collagen stimulation.

Possible side effects of Microneedling: Temporary bruising and/or Redness

Why should I see a professional for a Microneedling service vs. using my derma roller device at home?
It’s very simple, putting needles up to your skin should be left to a trained and licensed professional to prevent causing permanent damage. You could be increasing blood flow for temporary results but you at an increased risk for injury, inflammation, scar tissue, and infection. We do not recommend performing these treatments at home!

Whether you have a nasty scar on your leg from when you fell learning how to ride a bike, stretch marks from pregnancy, acne scars from when you were a teenager, or you simply would like a more even skin tone, Microneedling could be just the miracle worker you have been looking for!

Microneedling might just change your life!
